Yesterday Jus, Leo, Eli and I made a trip up north to a different "big city." We went to visit Brenda and Rob. We'd planned on going during football season, but plans change with a 4 year old and a 2 year old (not to mention the busy social life of a certain college student ;)). So over Christmas, we compared schedules and found that this weekend was the best for us. We decided to go to the children's museum and hit up a basketball game. Jus was concerned with who the "crap rapids" were playing, but Brenda and I just wanted to visit.
My dear friend, Cheryl, went to this college and is always trying to get my boys to like the Jackrabbits. Yesterday morning, Leo was asking who they played, "Mom, who do the crap rapids play tonight?" I couldn't stop laughing, and texted Cheryl right away so she could see how much Leo was in to going to be a Jackrabbit.
We headed up right after lunch, in hopes of a short nap before the busy afternoon and evening. It worked! Both boys slept almost the entire way to "the big city."
We got to campus, and had Brenda take us on a tour. Cheryl said we had to eat ice cream at the Dairy Bar. Unfortunately, after a brisk walk cross the HUGE campus, it was closed. (Maybe next time we visit!) The campus was really cool!
Ok, time for a confession: I went to a very tame school. I looked
only at that college. I went there because ALL of Justin's siblings went there, so naturally, I figured he would go there. However, he didn't. Yeah, big time bummer. Truth be told, I applied to the U of M. (Not many people know that little tidbit. You.are.welcome!) Wonder what would have happened if I'd had the guts to go there. Now that is a HUGE city!
Anyway, I digress, back to the "big city" trip. The campus was really cool, the atmosphere, the buildings, all the "extras", everything looked like a lot of fun. Instead of being intimidated, I liked it. I kind of felt like my boys could go to a big school. Of course, in 2026 and 2028 I'm guessing I might be singing a different tune. :)
After the tour we hit the children's museum. It was awesome! I didn't realize that there was something that fun that close to home! We will be making MANY more trips to the museum.
The boys loved the garage. They got to change the muffler, change tires, put on license plates, change the oil, add antifreeze and so much more. They were in heaven! So was their daddy!
After the garage, we headed to the farming area. Eli picked corn and carrots. Leo found this climbing "thing" that was made of surf boards. It was really cool. He was so brave! My shy, little Leo loved going all the way to the top and even played with kids that he didn't know. I was so impressed. Pre-School is so good for him! He's building his confidence and stretching him. I love who he is growing into!
Not gonna lie, Brenda and I were
shocked that he went all the way to the top. It was at least 2 stories high!
After we'd finished the bottom floor, we headed upstairs to do some tie-dying.
They looked so cute all ready to go. Guess what colors my rough, tough boys made their tie-dyed creations... Pink and purple! Really?! Eli just threw his in the closest tub, and Leo wanted a Lion colored one. I guess that's ok. After Brenda and Justin finished
their projects, we went down to another area.
There was a GIANT lite brite. It was so cool!
Leo enjoyed putting the pegs in.

After the museum, we went to pick up Rob and had a little tour of the "big city." He showed us where he flies. (He's going to be a pilot. How cool is that?!) We then went to campus and saw Brenda's dorm, or cracker box. So tiny! We hung out there until it was time to eat. We ate, and headed to the game.
Leo was all about the game! He sat next to Brenda and didn't move off his spot most of the game. He just watched. He loved all the clocks and the dunks. He told me at the game, "I want to play basketball here, Mom."

My other gym baby was pretty tired out. He spent sometime doing this...
The "crap rapids" won, and Leo was so happy. We said our good-byes and headed for home. It was a great trip! Thanks so much for the fun day, Brenda and Rob! Let's do it again soon!
