Here is Leo taking a nebulizer treatment in his room. He would do a great job for the first five minutes, but for the last ten you had to entertain him or it was a lost cause!

Here's Leo with his oxygen tube. He didn't like it at all! He tried to pull it out all the time!

It started last Saturday night with Leo Beo up all night coughing and running a temp. We were going to wait it out until Monday, and go see Dr. Van Beek. Monday I called and got an appointment for Leo at 2 o'clock. By 10:00 I'd received 3 phone calls from my mother-in-law, saying Leo was running a high temp and was having a hard time breathing. Well, what did I do but freak out!! I called and got us in earlier. (I think I broke the land speed record to Sioux Falls that morning. Don't worry Dad, I was safe...) We went in and had the RSV test and a chest X-ray. I say we like I had it done to me. Um, no. Poor Leo! The tests are less than pleasant to watch, and I imagine worse to have done. RSV came back negative, which surprised everyone. We were sent home to wait it out. We started neb treatments, much to his dismay.
On Tuesday evening Dr. Van Beek called to tell us that his x-ray was positive for pneumonia. He started antibiotics, much to his dismay.
Wednesday I went to work and ended up leaving to take him in again. We had his oxygen level tested, much to his dismay. We were told by the PA that things looked ok...
My mom got home from Kansas and came to stay at our house to help with Leo. He had his WORST night ever on Wednesday night. He screamed from midnight until six-thirty.
We went back in Thursday morning and got to see a different doctor because Dr. Van Beek was in labor! (All is well. Girl, Gabrielle, I think.) Leo had another RSV test and chest x-ray, much to his dismay. He tested positive for RSV this time (shocker!) and his pneumonia had spread. (On a positive note, well kinda, I can now correctly spell pneumonia.) His oxygen level had dropped down to 88%, which for you non-medical people is not good. We were told to head to Sanford Hospital, and not wait for anything. He needed IV fluids and oxygen NOW. (Ok, freak out more!)
So to the hospital we went. We got there and got a room finally, and then came the IV, oxygen, more tests, and all that good stuff. We had a great nurse, Wendy, who was so helpful and kind.
It was so awful to watch Leo lay in his bed and just look at you with sad, sad eyes. My heart broke into a million pieces every time I heard his raspy cough or cry. Thursday night was rough at the hospital. He cried a lot, and had to be swayed to sleep. Luckily the baby we were sharing a room with was deaf, so he wasn't disturbed by Leo's cries.
Friday morning the doctor came in and told me to be prepared to see him in the hospital on Monday. That was something I wasn't prepared for at all. After he left, I bawled! (So did Leo.) Friday went much better. He ate a little more, moved around a little more and even semi-smiled once or twice. He was getting a quarter of oxygen, which was much better than the liter he was getting on Thursday night. He was also getting neb treatments every four hours. He tolerated them a little better, but we did a lot of them when he was sleeping. He had to have his nose sucked out often to get the gunk out, very much to his dismay! Then came the evening...Nurse Wendy, whom I loved up until this point, said that I had to go home and get some sleep. The first night I left my baby I had to leave him in the hospital?!?! I cried and cried. My mom drove me home, and once I finally stopped crying, I did sleep soundly.
Saturday morning Leo had another chest x-ray, again, much to his dismay. When I got there I asked the nurse how much oxygen Leo was getting, and great news!!! He had been on room air since 11 o'clock the night before! What a relief! The doctor on call came in and said that if Leo kept his oxygen up, he'd get to go home today!!! I was shocked, and honestly, a little freaked out again. What if he started coughing again, what if he got worse, what if, what if... (I think I'm the queen of negative thinking some days...) Saturday was pretty good. He got his oxygen off, and even got to get on the floor and play a little. It was great to see him so happy!
Anyway, Leo got to come home last night (Saturday)! He did so great sleeping too. He went to bed at 7:45, got up at 12:45 to eat and have his neb treatment. Woke up at 5:00 to eat and have a treatment, and was playing in his bed at 8:00 when I went to check on him. What a boy! What a week! Thanks for all the thoughts, prayers and visits from everyone. We really appreciate it!

Messy Eater!
I think he gets this from his dad's side of the family... Just Kidding! He was enjoying his squash and cereal. It's pretty funny when he sneezes and food comes out along with the snot! (I hope nobody is eating as they read this...) Leo's had a rough weekend. He had such a good day yesterday, but last night Justin and I had to take turns every other hour holding him in the chair. If you'd lay him in his bed he'd wake up screaming. It was like there was a button on his bottom. Needless to say, thank goodness it was a Saturday night. It can only get better for tonight, right?!?!

Do you think he's changed?
Well, maybe just a little...Yeah right! This series of Melia's work are of Leo in my mom's bowl. In the first picture he is 5 days, next 3 months, last 6 months. I think he's grown just a little... Someone asked me if it was the same baby! :) It sure is!

Leo & Jaina
We had Christmas with the other side of the family on Sunday, Dec. 30th. (Last names aren't used due to Grandma Jan's paranoia.) Anyway, Leo was again spoiled rotten! He's getting teeth, so he was a bit crabby... Towards the end of the night, we finally got both kids to look at one camera. Leo seems to be about 1/2 of Jaina's size! He comes from tall stock. :)
